Least Cost Routing (LCR)
LCR is one of two ways to achieve indirect voice access. LCR enables Matrix Communications' customers to utilise their existing exchange lines to access another carrier PSTN network and therefore pricing structures. Matrix Communications are then able to provide the customer competitive rates on a single hierarchal billing solution, across all voice lines and numbers. Existing customer telephone numbers are not altered.
LCR requires outgoing calls to be prefixed with a numerical access code. The code instructs the local BT exchange to send the call onto a corresponding carrier's network on which the customer's originating number is registered. The access code can be prefixed onto calls by configuration of customer call switching equipment. Alternatively the prefix may be added by use of dedicated prefixing apparatus or keyed in by the user.
LCR has largely been superceded as a method of indirect voice access for new solutions by a second method called Carrier Pre-Selection (CPS).
