Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN)

ISDN30 or Primary Rate (PRI) ISDN is a 2Mbps circuit separated into thirty useable 64kbps channels. It is suitable for businesses with high call volumes. Calls can be either voice or data in nature.

The chosen carrier provides the link directly from their exchange equipment to the customer premises where the customer can attach their telephony equipment. The user may have a single number associated with the line. Alternatively a range of Direct Dial Inward (DDI) numbers can be associated against groupings of the channels or each channel may have an individual DDI assigned to it. There are a variety of further services that vary somewhat by carrier, which can also be applied such as call barring, number withholding and automatic call diverts.

As data calls are also supported over the channels they can be used as resiliency for a customers' primary WAN connection. They also support dial-in connections for small branch offices or individual remote users.
