Virtual Private Network

A Virtual Private Network (VPN) is a network that is deployed on a public network infrastructure that employ the same security, management and quality of service policies applied in a private network.

The benefit of using VPNs include cost savings and the extension of connectivity to telecommuters, mobile users and remote users as well as to new customers, suppliers and partners. For an enterprise customer a public VPN is an alternative WAN infrastructure that either replaces or augments existing private networks that utilise leased lines or Frame Relay and ATM networks.
