National Ethernet

National Ethernet is a relatively new product that like Short Haul Data Services (SHDS) provides LAN speeds between different buildings. However as the name suggests National Ethernet is not constrained by the maximum 25KM distance between site rule. National Ethernet utilises a SHDS circuit from customers premises to the nearest point of presence (POP), which is then backhauled across the carriers network to another POP located nearest to the customers' second premises, the POP and building are then connected by another SHDS circuit.

As the price of SHDS circuits are very distance sensitive it becomes vitally important to choose the provider with POP's closest to the customer locations. Unlike SHDS National Ethernet can work in both a point to point and point to multipoint basis allowing aggregation of bandwidth at the head quarters.
